Baptiste a good choice to lead SVG

Editor: One of my dreams came true when Portia Simpson-Miller became Jamaica’s first woman Prime Minister. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her on her victory and also her new position as Prime Minister.

I think former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson did the right thing by stepping aside; I am hoping that when the time is right that our Prime Minister Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves will do the same thing, thus making sure that democracy is alive in the ULP and that the person with the ability will end up leading the ULP.{{more}}

As of today’s date, the only choice is the Hon. Rene Baptiste. My reason for saying this is – Miss Baptiste came from a Labour Party background, she is articulate, intelligent, and has the ability of carrying this country into the 21st Century. I am hoping that when the ULP’s Central Executive meets Hon. Rene Baptiste would be the obvious choice.

Look into the ULP and tell me who besides Dr. Gonsalves has leadership quality? In these modern times, we need someone who can carry the torch and strengthen the partnerships between civil societies and government. I am not saying that Dr. Gonsalves is not doing a good job, but since Glenn’s death he seems to have lost it… he’s only human.

Right now this country needs spiritual help, and I am calling on both political parties to come together and work towards building this country. I am also suggesting that we declare a specific day as National Day of Prayer because our people seem to be in need of spiritual guidance – too much crime and violence taking over our blessed land.

Pastors, leaders, people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines let’s declare a National Day of Prayer and Fasting.
