Keep cell phones out of the church

EDITOR: On the afternoon of December 12, 2005, I attended the funeral service of Eustace Nash at St. George’s Cathedral.

Seated at the back right hand wing (facing the Altar) of the Church, I heard seven cellular phones ring, at different times, from different angles, each emitting its own distinguishable musical tones. Three calls were answered, the others, I believe, after some slight embarrassment, were turned off. {{more}}

On the afternoon of December 16, 2005, I also attended the funeral service of Nurse Grace Allen at the Kingstown Methodist Church. This time, the owner of the cell phone sat in the same pew in which I was seated. Totally embarrassed, the offender, after much fumbling, managed to turn it off.

It would appear that the human race has lost reverence and respect for the sanctity of our Churches.

I would not at all be surprised if in a few short months, Churchgoers who attend Sunday Services, Weddings and Funerals, light up and smoke their cigarettes in the Churches, all on their way to Gloryland.

Must the Churches now post large signs on their doors, making the statement that – “Cell phones are NOT allowed in Church. There is a basket provided at the entrance in which all cell phones must be dropped before entering Church?”

My Big Question is – what these Churchgoers who attended Church Service, Weddings, and Funerals did all those past donkey years, prior to the Cellular Phone Craze?

The Cell phone Craze is approximately ONLY two years old.
