‘I stand firmly behind you, Comrade’

EDITOR: I have struggled over the years to withhold myself from being like the rest of the family by using the radio and newspapers to air my views. I prefer to be a humble, simple man, minding my own business, hence the reasons I bowed out from singing calypso; but I had to break the long spell.

In getting to the point, I must say I am not a die-hard party supporter. I like to make my decision as to whom I vote for based on: (1) the party’s manifesto, that must be realistic, not a booklet of impossible tasks and foolish promises; (2) the individuals who are put up as candidates must put people’s interests before self; (3) the government in power – their performance should clearly indicate if they should be re-elected. {{more}}

St. Vincent and the Grenadines had gotten to the point where we were an international laughing stock – con-men after con-men were ripping us off in so many simple ways. We were blacklisted as a country, harbouring money launderers, we could not export fish to European countries and the disturbing list goes on.

So without any other choice we had to make a change. Now after four-and-a-half years we have seen a government which has done so much. To be honest, my fear for this government is whether or not they can keep up their current pace in reshaping St. Vincent and the Grenadines. As my brother Ken says, they deserve a second term.

It is true to say that the government has done things that affected me personally, but I have to look beyond myself, looking at the wider scope. St. Vincent and the Grenadines has benefited tremendously from this government. I honestly think that my country is in safe hands, so I will stand firmly behind my Comrade Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. I will do everything possible to return the Unity Labour Party to office.

LABOUR NOW! NO TURNING BACK.
