Conflict of interest

Editor: I am a retired developer who has returned to my country to make my contribution.

My problem arose with the purchase of a property in Arnos Vale. I retained a lawyer who searched for months before he finally located this property. I retained him to prepare the conveyance.{{more}}

To my horror, the financial institution that prepared the mortgage sent the conveyance to the lawyer for preparation.

Despite pointing out this obvious conflict where the same lawyer acts for the mortgagor and the mortgagee, the association and the lawyer nevertheless continued to process the documents.

From March 18, 2005 through March 31, 2005, I made it plain to these bodies that I was very much concerned about conflict of interest. The lawyer nevertheless prepared the conveyance and registered it on March 31, 2005.

My wife and I returned because our country is the most peaceful in the world. But it seems to be the only country that practices this injustice to its nationals.

I call on financial institutions to stop this practice. It is unjust.

A purchaser has no security for his money.

In case of a dispute, whom would the lawyer represent?
