Enlightening our minds

We as Vincentians have come a long way, and I strongly believe that we are on the path of intertwining ourselves with the rest of the world on social, economic, and technological levels; however, I think we are still lagging in the enlightenment of our minds. I want to challenge and encourage Vincentians to improve our way of thinking and most importantly, to think and learn for ourselves. It is never too late. {{more}}

There always seems to be a political battle on the airways and though it is absolutely necessary for the general public to be involved as best we can, in the situations that can affect our lives, we must do so consciously. It’s okay to question when you don’t fully understand. It’s okay to criticize when you understand and are in disagreement. By the same token, it is quite okay to support a cause that you understand and can clearly see the pros. An enlightened mind allows you to make sound judgments.

We’ve had Independence for 25 years and maybe we shouldn’t rely on our governments to make us smarter, and smart here doesn’t necessarily mean “book sense”. We have to develop a mind of our own as vincentians. When you listen to the different political sermons, put your minds to work and don’t hesitate to look at the big picture.

Pay close attention to the people whose decisions can change your life for better or worstworse. Analyze situations for yourself and don’t always feed on the rations supplied by politicians, or anyone else for that matter. Always try to get the facts for yourselves. An enlightened society will reduce social issues drastically. Our level of respect for each other will improve;. Our level of service will improve and most importantly, our blessed SVG will start to see its full potential. We the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines are what make the country what it is.

“Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppression of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.” – Thomas Jefferson.
