Unsolved crimes against sports

In recent times, there has been a growing call for a national policy programme to be put in motion to use sports to put a dent in the incidences of crime.

This well intended programme, according to the advocates, would help in fashioning a safer social structure for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is without a doubt that sports can play a critical role in crime prevention.

But before any such undertaking be given any real exertion of national prominence, the chronic misdemeanours and transgressions which have been committed against sports, and which have gone unsolved, must be addressed.

The charge sheets for those perpetrators, who continually fail to meaningfully address sports as an avenue for social and economic transformation, are guilty of gagging and stifling to death the spirits and talents of our young people.

Chief culprits of such acts against sports, are the many policy makers who parade with their tongues of deceit.

Perfecting the art of spewing pronouncements of a glossy outlook for sports here in St Vincent and the Grenadines; they babble on how much they have been doing for sports, and follow up with some grandiose future plans and projects, yet we are progressing in reverse.

Such persons should not be allowed to continue to mislead the populace, as their treacherous betrayal of trust, is tantamount to perjury of the highest order.

A man hunt therefore should be initiated for their capture, as they too can be considered armed with lies and a danger to the truth.

Joining the wanted list, are those holders of political offices who have held our young people at ransom, with promises of new and better sporting facilities.

The lures are in recompense of their votes, but whilst the youths have kept their side of the bargain, those politicians have not.

Unfortunately, although these perpetrators of such are known to all, they are permitted to be repeat offenders.

Also on the loose are those sports administrators who have raped their associations’ constitution, simply to remain in power.

Stealing of power by the guilty parties is another of the ills being committed in sports, but which have free rein to operate immorally, only to the detriment of the charges they represent.

For too long, these administrators who have dodged the bullet with their mercenary type of leadership has left their organizations naked of progress.

Escaping the dragnet, and free to roam, are those leaders who lead their goodly offices and portfolios to persecute those who oppose their modus operandi.

Topping that most wanted list, is that bandit who cares little about decorum and poise as a leader, but one whose vile and venomous tongue, chops, maims and disfigures people’s character, sometimes beyond recognition.

Unfortunately, the alleged has been a prime suspect in several accusations, however, investigators seemingly have been unable to piece together sufficient evidence, to bring charges and subsequent conviction.

But equally culpable to the accused are those affiliates who act as accomplices in these matters.

Reports are that the affiliates prefer to be bought in recompense for their integrity.

The latter though are not the only ones guilty of such silence, as there are other affiliates from other organizations who have sold themselves short, by accepting their heads’ actions as the norm, hence their atrocities flourish with infinite immunity.

Unfortunately, the witnesses in our local court of sports are turning blind eyes and have in the main refused to testify of the innumerable wrong doings.

They, however, too must be classified as persons of interest.

This column will therefore reiterate, that as prerequisite to any sort of Sports Against Crime initiative, there must be a national investigation made for “Crime Against Sports” as we cannot put the cart before the horse.
