SVG taking part in 33rd NCIC in T&T
The SVG Indian Heritage Foundation will be represented at the 33rd National Council of Indian Culture’s (NCIC) Annual Diwali Nagar Festival being held from October 18 to 26 in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago.
A release said the SVG Indian Heritage Foundation will be represented by President Junior Bacchus and other members of the Executive.
The delegation will attend the Local and Indian Classical on Thursday October 24, the Queen pageant on Friday October 25 and the Final and Closing ceremonies on Saturday October 26.
The events will be held at the Nagar Site in Charlieville, Chaguanas.
This year the NCIC will honour UK based Trinidad Author Dr Latchmi Persaud originally from Pasea, Tunapuna.
The delegation from SVG will be officially welcomed by Kanhai Kangal, a former member of the NCIC, who attended the launch of the SVG Indian Heritage Foundation in 2006 and who has been attending the functions of the SVG Indian Heritage Foundation since the passing of the Act by the Government of SVG in 2007 to declare Indian Arrival Day June 1 and Indian Heritage Day October 7.
The delegation will also be officially hosted by Purushottam Singh, the Cultural Officer of the NCIC who has organised several groups of performers to visit SVG for the Foundation’s functions in June and October of each year. Surudeo Mangaroo, Public Relations Officer of the NCIC who also visited SVG in the past will meet with the delegation on arrival.
The SVG Indian Heritage Foundation in the release expressed profound gratitude to all who assisted in arranging the visit and who have supported their efforts over the years.
“We are overjoyed that we can pay a return visit to their country for these festivities,” the release said.
