Major Road Works to begin by March – PM

PRIME MINISTER Dr Ralph Gonsalves has announced that work on major road projects in this country will commence by March this year.

Gonsalves was speaking on Monday, at his first press conference for the year, when he revealed some of the major projects, initiatives and policies that are going to be advanced by the government in 2019.

And he said these major road projects will be executed under funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), World Bank and the European Union.

The prime minister also revealed that one third of EC$90 million under the Kuwait OFID (OPEC Fund for International Development) road project will go towards work on 10 major roads in St Vincent and the Grenadines as well as some secondary roads.

Gonsalves added that his son and finance minister Camillo Gonsalves, has secured US$5 million to fund a project dubbed Public Access for Village Enhancement (PAVE).

“I have seen the correspondence, US$5 million to build through all the villages and communities, the footpaths and the like. There are many of them with new communities and even some older ones which we need to do. That would have a big impact on people’s lives,” he said.
