On Wednesday, November 14, the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown will be transformed into a hive of ideas and creativity as the sixth annual National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) Ideas and Innovation/I2 competition finals is held.

Eight groups will take part in the secondary schools’ idea category, six will take part in the secondary schools’ mobile application category and eight will take part in the open category. The open category is for members of the public.

The competition welcomes members of the public and students to present ideas and mobile applications designed to improve the functionality of public and private sector entities.

The NTRC’s Consumer and Public Relations Officer Keisha Gurley, also coordinator of the event, said on Monday that the preliminary judging took place at the National Insurance Services (NIS) building from October 9 to 11 and saw an increase in participation over 2017.

The entries were up from 50 groups last year to 54 in 2018, while two new schools took part this year in the form of the Dr JP Eustace Memorial Secondary School and the West St George Secondary School.

Gurley said the finals will begin at 9 a.m. on November 14 and the public is welcome to the event as the mobile applications created for the competition will be on display.

The secondary schools’ idea category will see competition from Convalis from the St Vincent Grammar School, Macro Optimist of the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School, PBSS Inventors from the Petit Bordel Secondary School, NUSS Conquerors 2 from the North Union Secondary School, Tekni Constructors from the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School, Zip from the St Vincent Girls’ High School, UISS Geo from the Union Island Secondary School and Young Inventors from the Petit Bordel Secondary School.

Competition in the secondary schools’ mobile application category will come from SVGivers from the St Vincent Grammar School, NUSS Conquerors 2 from the North Union Secondary School, Skai Secure St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, Beartriz of the St Martin’s Secondary School, Team Titans from the St Vincent Grammar School, Health Techs of St Vincent Grammar School and Supa Nova of the St Martin’s Secondary School.

In the open category, competition will come from Med Lab Pro, Dawati Techs, Plumb Vision, Error 404, RDG, We are Creators, Xcite Business Innovations and Positive.
