Teachers to get hands on training at Cultural Heritage Workshop
Cultural Heritage in St Vincent and the Grenadines will be the focus of a teachers’ workshop hosted by the Garifuna Heritage Foundation and the Ministry of Education today at the Fisheries Conference Room.
The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Niall Finneran, programme leader in the Master of Arts degree in Cultural Heritage and Resource Management at the University of Winchester, United Kingdom and targets History and Social Studies teachers at secondary schools with the aim of developing resources for researching local history and heritage.
The teachers will have an in depth look at topics ranging from mapping memory, text-board exhibition, making it local and working with people-oral- history.
Dr Finneran’s areas of expertise include historical archaeology in the Caribbean and south-western England, Maritime and nautical archaeology and ethnography and cultural heritage management.
The workshop will be preceded by a short opening ceremony beginning at 9 in the morning.
