Junior detectives undergo week-long training course
In keeping with the objective of effectively managing its human resources, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVPF) on August 31 brought a close to its week long Junior Detective CID Course.
The course, which began on Monday, August 27 saw participation from 22 police officers from various stations, departments and units throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The course included statement taking and analysis, case file preparation, crime scene management, handling exhibits, house and vehicle searches, electronic interview and most significantly ethics and discipline.
Delivering brief remarks, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of crime, Richard Browne, expressed gratitude to the course facilitators for their contribution in making the course a success. ACP Browne however noted that the participants now have a responsibility to ensure that the facilitator’s efforts were not in vain.
He further emphasized that to whom much is given much is expected and that the officers would be expected to raise their game.
Course facilitator and officer in charge of CID, ASP Hesron Ballantyne expressed how pleased he was with the performance of the participants during the week-long course. In his address, Ballantyne outlined that the senior management of the organisation recognised that the constabulary is a youthful one, and are making calculated efforts to ensure that each member is well rounded in the various facets of policing.
Ballantyne admonished participants to always maintain their professionalism when dealing with members of the public and to always remember what is expected of them while carrying out their tour of duty.
The ASP further expressed confidence in the ability of each participant to apply the knowledge they acquired from the course to prevent and detect crimes throughout SVG.
The RSVPF recognises the need for specific training and continues to ensure that police officers throughout SVG benefit from various training opportunities offered locally and throughout the region.
