The profession of cosmetology welcomed 15 novices on Monday, at a graduation ceremony at the Calliaqua Town Hall.

The new graduates have been certified in the areas of bacteriology, trichology (the study of hair), hair cutting, thermal ironing, the professional image, chemical hair straightening, hair colouring and soft curl permanent, to name a few.

Trainer Barbara Bacchus, a licensed cosmetologist, trainer, CVQ assessor/verifier, stated that students were assessed on practical performance, theory, oral presentation and competency during their two-week attachment with professional stylists at 14 different salon establishments.

The course, which was offered by the Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) Unit, ran for a three-month period, from May 29 at the Glen Learning Resource Centre.

Bacchus said Patricia Laidlow, Hycinth Cupid Bynoe and Britney Williams did exceptionally well, while one male, who specialized in barbering, presently works at Link’s Barber Shop on weekends.

Director of the ACE Unit Zan George encouraged the graduates to pursue the CVQ course.

Appreciation was expressed to the 14 salons who accepted students on attachment: Carla’s Beauty Salon, Annie’s Beauty Salon, Yvette’s Splitting Image, Sanka’s Beauty Salon, Auldine’s Styling Chic, Sherma’s Beauty Salon, Raquel’s House of Hair, Roseman’s Beauty Salon, Candice Options, Bethel’s Beauty Salon, Trendsetter’s, Beautiful Beginnings, Patsy’s Beauty Salon, Link’s Barber Shop.
