NTRC I2 finalists to be announced today
The finalists in the 2017 National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) fifth annual Ideas and Innovation (I2) competition will be announced today, October 17.
The preliminary judging phase of the competition began on last Tuesday, October 10 and ended Thursday, October 12.
During this phase, about 50 groups made presentations on ideas for projects and mobile applications that they think can improve the way the public and private sector interacts with persons.
This year, an open category was added to the competition and as a result, the participating groups moved from around 25 in 2016 to 50 in 2017.
Consumer and public relations manager at the NTRC Keisha Gurley said 10 groups will be chosen to take part in the ideas category, six for the mobile application category and six for the open category.
This year, groups presented ideas for projects and mobile applications that can improve educational opportunities, make businesses more visible, help with health/exercise and improve the tax system.
The finals will be held on November 15.
Judges in the preliminary rounds included Sunel John of IT Solutions, Anthony McKenzie of Open Integration, Paul Morris of Mavcom, David Brown of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus and producer Alex Barnwell.
Participating schools included the St Vincent Girlsâ High School, the St Vincent Grammar School, the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, the Petit Bordel Secondary School, the Central Leeward Secondary School, the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown and the Mountain View Adventist Academy.
