No non-Vincentian interns in paid posts at MCMH – CMO

There are at present no non Vincentian doctors in the internship programme at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital who are paid by the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The assertion came from chief medical officer Dr Simone Keizer-Beache, who, during an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, explained that while the doctors do make up the numbers in the internship programme, they are all self-financed, and applied to the programme at a time when there were no Vincentian applicants.

“The three non-Vincentians in the programme are currently self-financed. As it is now … there are no non-Vincentians holding paid posts. They are in the programme, yes; they may account for the numbers, but they are not employed by the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines,” she stated.

The three doctors are a part of a group of 21 interns on a two-year programme which medical school graduates must complete in order to be able to practise medicine.
