Police are investigating a burglary that took place on board a yacht that was moored at Wallilabou Bay over the weekend.

According to businessman Edmund Morris of the Wallilabou Anchorage Restaurant, on Saturday night, a family of six from Austria dined at the restaurant and left, but returned around 8 p.m. and reported to him that their boat had been burglarized.{{more}}

A number of things were taken, including money, a phone and other electronic items.

Morris said that the family, who left last Sunday morning, reported the matter to the police. He said that one of the women revealed that she first visited these shores in 1979 and has come back eight times since then and this is her first bad experience.

As a result of the latest burglary, Morris said that he would like to see more police presence in the area, but noted that since the murder of a German tourist at Wallilabou back in March, this is the first incident of this nature.

On Friday, March 4, 2016, at around 2.30 a.m., two armed bandits boarded a yacht at Wallilabou and attacked a German family, killing 49-year-old accountant Martin Griff by shooting him in the throat. The boat’s captain, 63-year-old Reinhold Zeller, was shot in his left shoulder, but lived.

Back then, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves had promised to increase police presence in the area.(LC)
