The Sandy Bay Secondary School emergency shelter is filled with sad stories of persons who lost everything during the trough system that hit this country last week.

“When I went home, I saw some of my possessions in the road and some gone; this is the first time that I am experiencing anything like this; I don’t know my next move.”{{more}}

Those words belong to Shakira Bobb of Sandy Bay, who was at her boyfriend’s house when the weather system began raging on Tuesday morning, November 29.

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT on Saturday from the emergency shelter, Shakira, who has two children, said that she does not know where she will go if she is to leave the shelter.

“When I went home after I got a phone call, I saw the whole house fall down; this is real sad for me,” said Shakira, who is asking for the public’s help to get back on her feet.

Another Sandy Bay resident, Rolicia Nanton, had a similar story.

“…The night when I there, I heard my mother call me and tell me don’t walk by my front door, then she came and took out the children; but we could not get out anything before the house collap-sed,” said Nanton, who is still shaken up from her experience.

“I feel sad because I don’t have anything for my kids. I lose everything that was in the house and now I have to stay here,” said the unsettled mother. (LC)
