This country recorded its 27th murder for the year, over the weekend, with the shooting death of 42-year-old painter Victor Scott, with the victim’s brother saying he does not know who would want to do that to him.

Victor was killed at around 11 p.m. last Friday, November 4, while making his way home in an area of Sion Hill known as Mountain Cabbage. He was walking through a neighbour’s yard {{more}}and reports are that he was hit with the blast from a shotgun, which destroyed part of his head.

Speaking on Saturday, Victor’s younger brother, Kerwin Scott, told reporters that he had already gone to bed on Friday night when he heard a policeman outside his house.

He said that he got up because he wanted to know what was going on, but little did he know that his brother had been shot and killed.

“I can’t believe this…he was a good man; I had respect for him,” said Kerwin, who revealed to journalists that his brother had four children and that he had no idea whatsoever who would want to hurt his sibling.

The owner of the property where the dreadlocked man was killed said that she heard a loud explosion around 11 p.m. while she was reading a newspaper, but did not go outside, as she never expected that it was a gunshot.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the shopkeeper said that she attributed the noise to the traditional bamboo blowing activities associated with Guy Fawkes celebrations, so she did not pay the blast much attention.

She said that later, her son went to the window to draw the curtain, at which time he saw a man on the ground and they decided to call the police.

The shopkeeper said that when she saw the body, she recognized the slippers, then realized that it was Victor, so she called his mother, who identified him.

She said that the incident scared her, seeing that it happened in her yard, but thinks that it would not affect her business.

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the assailant or assailants. (LC)
