Female residents at the Lewis Punnett Home at Glen were returned to that facility yesterday after being evacuated last week due to the passage of Tropical Storm Matthew.

The elderly women were being housed at the Fairhall Government School and as a result, that institution did not re-open yesterday along with other educational institutions,all of which were closed since last Tuesday afternoon. {{more}}

A Ministry of Health official told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that the Ministry was considering doing repairs on the section of the Lewis Punnett Home that houses the females, but that would have delayed the opening of the school for too long and therefore caused a tremendous loss in instructional time.

The official said that repairs will soon be made to the roof and floor of the nursing home, which is the only public geriatric facility that houses the indigent elderly.

Also, the Mental Health Centre, located some 300 yards from the Lewis Punnett Home, is expected to be re-opened by the end of this month after extensive refurbishment.

It is expected that the Fairhall Government School will reopen by tomorrow, Wednesday.
