Lewis Punnett Home, Mental Health Centre receive EC$20,000 worth of supplies

The Lewis Punnett Home and the Mental Health Centre are the recipients of approximately EC$20,000 worth of medical and other supplies.

The donation has come from the Progressive Friends of St Vincent and the Grenadines, a charitable organization based in New York. The group is led by president Michele Jones- McDowall.{{more}}

On Friday, October 16, the group’s local representative, Elsa Lionel-Jones, handed over the supplies to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, during a brief ceremony at the Medical Stores Building in Rose Place. According to a release from Jones-McDowall:

“Too long has society swept the problems of mental illness and destitution under the carpet and wish that it will go away. We’re all human and we never know what may happen in our lives that will take us from sanity to insanity or from opulence to poverty.”

She said that the supplies were gathered in June of this year when the group held its first ‘Lend-A-Hand’ drive.

“We are thankful for the generous donations through which our organization was better equipped to providing patients both young and old with personal amenities such as personal hygiene products, toiletries, clothing, cleaning products, walking aids, vitamins and medical supplies and equipment that are valued at about EC$20,000. We do hope our contributions will go a long way and do look forward to contributing more in the future,” the president said, also thanking Lauren Walker and the staff of Majestic Express Ltd, “for their extraordinary efforts and efficiency in working together with our organization to organize and ship these items.”

The Progressive Friends of St Vincent and the Grenadines consist of young and aspiring professionals whose aim is dedicated, but not limited to helping patients of the Lewis Punett Home and the Mental Health centre in St Vincent and the Grenadines by providing them with the necessary items that will make their stay more pleasing and comfortable. The organization was formed in April of 2015 and comprises Michele Jones-McDowall – president, Stacy Delpeche – vice-president, Demarley Holder – secretary, Glenna Brewster – assistant secretary, Sherryann Frederick – treasurer, Carolyn Goodluck – public relations officer (PRO), Dr Jessiela Roberts Ukwe – International liaison and Kevin McDowall – trustee and advisor.
