CW Prescod joins World Food Day celebrations

“Oh Mummy, watermelon,” said one Grade K boy to his mother, “Wow, bananas” said another. They were eager, happy when they entered their classroom last Friday, to see the display of a variety of fruits.

It was no ordinary school day for the students and teachers of the CW Prescod Primary School, as they joined more than 150 countries to observe October 16 as World Food Day.{{more}}

The Day has been designated since 1981 by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization to raise awareness on some of the issues behind poverty and hunger.

At the CW Prescod Primary, it was not the usual display of fruits, as the kindergarten teachers took it to the next level by using their culinary skills to make banana bread and fruit punches to raise awareness among the students of the many ways in which a fruit can be used, whether raw, juiced, stewed, candied or baked.
