The visit of President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro Moros to St Vincent and the Grenadines which was scheduled to take place on October 6 was postponed because of bad weather.{{more}}

When the postponement of the visit was announced at the last minute, no reason was given, leading to speculation as to the reason why.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, however, told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that Maduro’s trip had been cancelled that day because of heavy rain both in Venezuela and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Gonsalves said the runway here at the ET Joshua airport was wet and given how short the runway is, it was feared that the jet in which the president was travelling would skid when it landed.

According to the Prime Minister, the Venezuelan president also called off a trip to Antigua and Barbuda that same day because of the weather.

Maduro’s one-day visit was scheduled to have included a visit to the site of the Argyle International Airport, a media conference, a luncheon at the official residence of the Prime Minister, and bilateral talks on “matters of mutual interest” with Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves. (JSV)
