SEARCHLIGHT also understands that the vault was found still locked and it is believed that its contents were undisturbed.

Police officers from the Chateaubelair Police Station returned to the station around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday with the safe on the back of a pick-up truck.

SEARCHLIGHT reported in our October 9 edition that around 2 a.m. on October 7, burglars entered through a window on the northern side of the Post Office building and made off with the vault, which is said to have contained an undisclosed sum of money.

It is alleged the burglars made good on their getaway by stealing a fisherman’s boat not too far from the post office.

The post office is located obliquely opposite to the police station and also houses agencies of the Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG) and the Moneygram money transfer service.

It was sometime after 6 a.m. on the morning of the burglary that police officers responded to a report that the post office had been burglarized.

The police Public Relations Department said a release will be made on the matter later.
