PSU awards five scholarships and 13 bursaries


The Public Service Union (PSU) recently awarded five scholarships and 13 bursaries to children of their members.

The Annual Education Awards Ceremony was held on August 26 at the union’s headquarters at McKies Hill.{{more}}

Dellonte Boucher, Jarielle Francis, Isabella Young, Gian Alexander and Dionte Adams, who were successful in the 2015 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) were given scholarships to cover five years in secondary school and two years at a tertiary institutions here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Apart from these students, 13 other students, who were also successful at this year’s CPEA, received bursaries of $100 each.

The total cost of these awards is in excess of $20,000 per annum.

According to a release from the PSU, this figure represents one month’s income from dues collected from members.

The featured speaker, Lenelle Snagg, encouraged the students to study hard and spend their time wisely and to choose their friends carefully. She also admonished them to keep God in everything they do. Snagg was a scholarship recipient in 2006. She is now employed in the Public Service.

The persons receiving bursaries were: Akiva Richards, Annesher Brewster, Carla McLeod, Faynesha Peters, Jabez Matthews, Jayme Williams, Joshua John, Lorenzo Walker, Meagan Clarke, Michell Israel, Paul O’Garro, Reesa Douglas and Tyrone Clarke.
