The winning teacher, Sylvia Jack, who said that she spent all summer enhancing the room, received a gift basket, among other prizes, for her effort. She also received the admiration of her peers and especially the students, who showed their appreciation by showering Jack with hugs and smiles when they entered the room for the first time since its redecoration.

Jack said that she was proud of her achievement, and was happy that she could put extra smiles on her students’ faces.

Placing second in the competition was Daisy, while Camellia was third.

Naseem Smith, principal of the school, indicated that she had organized the event in an effort to lift the spirit of the school and bring some warmth to the classrooms.

She congratulated the teachers for their efforts and hinted that the competition may become an annual event.

The classrooms were judged on colour schemes, the presence of a learning centre, as well as on their student friendliness, among other criteria. (JJ)
