When Sue-Neil Laborde entered a competition hosted by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) last month, she found the grand prize appealing, but didn’t expect to win.

So, when she was contacted by an NTRC representative earlier this month, she was shocked and very elated to find out that she had been selected as the winner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4!{{more}}

Laborde, who resides in Mesopotamia, but is originally from Petit Bordel, said that she had been planning to get a tablet for her six-year-old son for the start of the new academic year.

“I feel blessed!” she enthused.

Laborde received her prize at a handover at the NTRC office, located in the NIS Building on Upper Bay Street, last Monday, which was facilitated by Keisha Gurley, USF Operations officer.

Gurley explained that the Facebook-based competition had been running for a month, and culminated on July 31, when an automated app randomly selected the winner.

“This was an effort to basically increase the number of likes on our Facebook page,” she explained.

Gurley also said that fans can look forward to similar competitions in future. In June 2015, the NTRC gave away an iPad mini, through a schools-based competition, which saw the organization visiting schools throughout the country to make presentations on the work and function of the NTRC.

“So, we’re hoping, because this yielded a lot of likes, we can probably do something similar in the future.”

Gurley encouraged persons to like the NTRC’s page (NTRC SVG) on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/NTRC.VC), and also to visit its website (www.ntrc.vc).

Participants in this competition were required to click on a specially provided tab on the Facebook page and to like the page to be entered into the competition. Also, when participants referred friends to enter the competition, they received two additional entries. (JSV)
