Universal Peace Federation (UPF) will host a peace march and rally in St Vincent on Thursday, July 23, under the theme ‘Stop Violence, Choose Peace’.

Director of the UPF Kay Bacchus-Browne stated in a press conference yesterday that the event, which will take place between three and six in the afternoon, will begin with a march from the Court House,{{more}} which would then proceed to Heritage Square, down Bay Street, through Higginson Street and up Back Street and onwards to the Grammar School playing field, where a peace rally would be held.

Bacchus-Browne said the march is part of a peace road tour taking place for 93 days in 120 countries from May 30 to August 30, with every country having a different theme relating to peace.

She said a representative of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and other parties would address the rally and other NGOs are expected to participate.

Public relations officer Junior Bacchus, who was also present at the press conference, stated that St Vincent and the Grenadines, over the recent past, has experienced different types of violence and urged persons who want to promote the ideals of peace to have a peaceful election season, because it is anticipated during this time people get very intolerant of others when it comes to their political support.

Persons are asked to wear a white T-shirt, symbolizing peace, although efforts are being made to distribute T-shirts and flags for the march.(AS)
