St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded its third road fatality for 2015.

At about 7:40 yesterday morning, 28-year-old Akisha Henson died in an accident that took place in Mt Grennan, the police public relations department has confirmed.

According to the police, motor vehicle P1884, driven by 46-year-old businessman, Philmon Rodney, was travelling in the direction of Kingstown when the brakes allegedly failed. The driver attempted to bank the left-hand drive vehicle,{{more}} when it overturned. According to preliminary investigations, Henson, the passenger, was attempting to exit the vehicle when it overturned on the right-hand side. Rodney escaped the accident unscathed.

“Since I was born, Kisha to me, she was a best friend,” Louann Barnus said when she was contacted by SEARCHLIGHT yesterday.

Speaking on behalf of the family, who were unable to comment at that point, Barnus expressed sadness over the young woman’s death.

“I was very, very shocked because I didn’t see her last night,” Barnus said. “Kisha was a friendly person. She [was] very nice. She liked sports; she was such a fun person.”

Henson’s death has also come as a shock to her co-workers at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Port Authority.

In an interview yesterday, human resources and corporate affairs manager, Charmane Tappin-John indicated that a counsellor has been called in to provide necessary support for the workers.

“Akisha was a good employee. She was very friendly [and] very supportive to the other staff. She was eager to teach any new employee coming in, the job. She was also a sports enthusiast,” she said of the mother of one.

Tappin-John also revealed that CEO, Bishen John had travelled to South Rivers to be with the family of the deceased.(BK)
