Winston Soso and Cyril “Scorcher” Thomas have been named cultural ambassadors of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The announcement was made last Sunday, by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves at a town hall meeting at the Friends of Crown Heights Centre,{{more}} in Brooklyn, New York.

Soso and Thomas, who both reside in the United States, are veteran soca artistes and both have represented St Vincent and the Grenadines in football as goalkeepers.

They will now have the privilege of carrying diplomatic passports of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Diaspora Committee of New York Inc., in a release, congratulated Thomas and Soso on their appointment as cultural ambassadors of SVG.

“Both of you, who currently reside in the diaspora in New York, truly deserve this honor.

“For a very long time now, both of you have brought joy, love, unity and dignity to our nation and its people in the diaspora. We in the Diaspora Committee look forward to working with you to promote Vincentian cultural arts throughout the world,” the release said.

Just one month ago, 15 other Vincentians were named as cultural or sporting ambassadors. During his Independence message to the nation on October 27, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced

that Cabinet had appointed the individuals, a gesture that he says reiterates appreciation for their contribution to sports and culture.

Several other persons have, in the past, been named either cultural, sporting or goodwill ambassadors by the Government.

Also at Sunday’s town hall meeting, a certificate of appreciation was presented to director of the Friends of Crown Heights Centre Vaughn Toney, in recognition of his “outstanding support and contribution to the developmental agenda of St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Diaspora.”
