Significant decrease in crimes, says Assistant COP


While homicides are on the increase, Assistant Commissioner of Police Frankie Joseph says general crimes are on the decline.

Speaking on a radio programme on Cross Country Radio last Friday, Joseph said since 2012, crimes have been decreasing significantly.{{more}}

According to Joseph, in 2011, 9,342 crimes were reported. He added that in 2012, that figure dropped to 7,490 and brought with it 28 homicides.

Last year, there was a further decrease in reported crimes, which totalled 6,743, with 24 murders.

In comparing the first three quarters of 2013 and 2014, Joseph said there were 5,039 reported crimes in last year, with 24 murders at that stage, while this year, there have been 4,681 reported crimes and 28 murders.

A total of 34 murders have taken place in this country so far for 2014.(KW)
