Cardinal bestows honours on Vincentian officials

Three of this country’s top officials were last weekend presented with honours, in recognition of the inaugural visit of The Most Eminent Grand Master and Cardinal Grand Prior Renato Raffaele Martino to this country.

During a cocktail held at the Prime Minister’s Residence last Friday, in honour of the {{more}}Cardinal’s visit, Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves and Deputy Prime Minister Girlyn Miguel were sashed and pinned with the sacred military constantinian order of St George, in recognition of “the nation’s contribution to enriching its Christian identities through charitable humanitarian endeavour and through interreligious harmony.”

Sir Frederick was bestowed the Rank and Dignity of Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Francis the First, Gonsalves the Rank and Dignity of Knight of the Grand Cross with Gold Star with Special Category, and Miguel the Rank and Dignity of Dame of Merit Star.

The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George is an internationally recognized order of Knighthood, which has resolved to work for the glorification of the Cross, the propagation of the Faith, and the defence of the Holy Roman Church.

While here, the Cardinal and his delegation, which arrived on Thursday, paid courtesy calls on the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace.

He celebrated Holy Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption, visited the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School, St Martin’s Secondary School, the School for Children with Special Needs, the St Benedict’s Children home in Georgetown, and the Charles Verbeke Center, which was recently destroyed by fire.

The Cardinal and his delegation were also presented with gifts by the Prime Minister and his wife Eloise.(JJ)
