SEARCHLIGHT understands that on Tuesday, October 28, the girl was involved in an altercation with a male classmate, when it is alleged that he punched her repeatedly in the eye.

The girl was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), where she underwent emergency surgery. According to a usually reliable source, a medical report issued after the surgery said the teenager had lost sight in the eye.

When SEARCHLIGHT visited the school, located at Edinboro, on Wednesday, principal Alwyn Joseph said he could not disclose any information on the matter, as the chief education officer is the official authorized to speak on behalf of the school.

At the time of our visit, Joseph was busy preparing a report on the matter for the Ministry of Education.

He, however, confirmed that both students are third formers and that the incident took place during “school hours,” in a classroom.

He has, however, dispelled rumours that the girl was

stabbed.

“They were fooling around. It was a playing incident that basically turned into playing the fool,” Joseph said.

When contacted, the Public Relations Department of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said investigations into the matter are being carried out. (KW)
