Caribbean Wellness Day this Saturday

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will join the rest of the Caribbean Community on Saturday, September 13, 2014, to commemorate Caribbean Wellness Day.

The day, which is usually celebrated on the second Saturday in September, will be held this year under the theme “A Healthy Workforce is a productive workforce.”{{more}} And, to commemorate the occasion, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in collaboration with the Wellness Committee, will host the following activities during the month of September:

o A Health and Fitness Walk and Health Fair on Saturday, September 13. Interested persons are invited to join the walk at the following points: the Calliaqua Playing Field, the Belmont Primary School, and the Campden Park Industrial Site. The walk will begin at 5 p.m. and will end at the Victoria Park, where there will be a ‘blow out session’ and a health fair.

o The launch of the CWSA Workplace Wellness Programme, coordinated by the Health Promotion Unit within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment and the Physical Education and Sports Department within the Ministry Tourism, Sports and Culture.

o The Physical Education and Sports Department within the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture will visit the various Ministries and Departments throughout September to conduct exercise demonstrations, with accompanying media highlights of the various exercise programmes.

o A National Symposium will be convened as a concluding activity to update the public on the findings of the National Health and Nutrition Survey which was conducted by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment during 2013-2014.
