Recognising the need to provide a structured approach to assist students in learning about the basics of the computer, the summer programme was conducted in one of the computer labs at the headquarters of SVGNCTI, located upstairs the old Banana Growers Association building on Sharpe Street from July 28 to August 8.

Throughout the duration of the programme, students were able to experience, in a practical way, the computer system, peripheral devices, the Windows environment, directories and folders. They were also introduced to the Adobe Photoshop software, which enabled them to create many posters and flyers. There was also a competition among the participants to produce a flyer/poster using the Adobe Photoshop software, with a prize given for the best quality work. At the end of the course all participating students were presented with certificates of completion of training.

“The summer school programme will definitely be of use to the participants, especially those who received laptops as part of the “one laptop per student” initiative, currently being undertaken by the Government,” a release from the organisers said.

SVGNCTI, as an approved British Computer Society (BCS) college offers IT courses such as BCS certificate in IT, diploma in IT and BCS professional degree in IT for people who are interested in pursuing studies in the IT field.

Similarly, for people who are interested in business qualifications, it is an accredited Association of Business Executive (ABE) institution offering level 4 and 5 diploma courses in Business Management, Marketing Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management.
