PM: Dame Monica – tired but not retired


Dame Monica Dacon, the Governor General’s deputy may be tired, but she has not retired.

At a press briefing on Monday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves referred to former Cabinet Secretary, Susan Dougan as the Governor General’s deputy.

Dougan was first sworn in as Governor General’s deputy acting on May 31 of this year and occupied the post until June 8.{{more}}

In reply to a question posed by SEARCHLIGHT, the Prime Minister indicated that Dacon has not retired from the post.

Gonsalves stated that he was advised by Govenor General His Excellency Frederick Ballantyne that Dame Monica was feeling tired.

“I think this is the second stint that His Excellency has appointed Mrs Dougan as his deputy,” the Prime Minister said.

“He advised me that the Governor General’s deputy, Mrs Monica Dacon who has served with dignity and distinction; she is an extraordinary woman and human being – that she was feeling a bit tired.”

In addition, Gonsalves pointed out that he would visit Dacon as soon as he has the opportunity to do so. (BK)
