Vincentians, mainly living in North America, are expected to converge on the campground Heckscher State Park in Long Island in New York, for the third staging of Vincy Day, tomorrow, Saturday, August 16.{{more}}

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. brings together Vincentians, as well as others, in a day of camaraderie, in keeping with the motto: “Together as one.”

With the anticipated large turnout, the organizing committee is asking those attending Vincy Day 2014, to assist by taking responsibility for the cleaning and disposal of trash that they generate.

Reports from the organizers say that this has become necessary to prevent impositions of additional costs from the park authorities.

The committee is also noting that no person under 21 years of age shall possess, consume or transport alcoholic beverages, while persons are asked pour their alcoholic beverages into cups.

A release from the organisers stated: “Persons attending Vincy Day, must share the use of park facilities, such as tables, benches, fireplaces, playground, equipment, etc with other park patrons.”

The committee is also encouraging groups where possible to provide their own tables, as those present on the campground may be inadequate for the expected large gathering of families.

“Pets are not permitted in any Long Island State Parks,” the Vincy Day release added.

The non-commercial activity at which no vending is permitted, seeks to promote sharing and frolicking in picnic style.

Apart from the feast of food and drink, the day will be filled with a packed cultural and sporting agenda. On the cultural menu would be a strong serving of entertainment, featuring steel-pan, gospel, folk, reggae, calypso and soca.

And there will be no shortage of games, which would be both organized and spontaneous.

The competitive sport lovers get a chance to sample the three-legged race, egg and spoon, skipping, needle and thread, sack race, play a game of dodge, small goal football and soft ball cricket.

Additionally, families and friends often engage themselves in dominoes, various card games, chess and draughts, among other board games.

Before the freestyle picnic and fun and games, a formal ceremony will take place, which would hear addresses from various speakers.

Following the inaugural hosting in 2012, the Vincy Day USA reached uncharted participation last year; hence the need for a larger area in 2014.
