Radiothon in Toronto to aid flood affected victims

A Radiothon, under the theme “Rebuilding Lives,” will be held this Sunday in Toronto to assist the three OECS countries affected by the passage of the Christmas floods on December 24, 2013.{{more}}

The radiothon will be hosted by hosted by popular Toronto Urban radio station G98.7 “The Way we Groove” on May 4, and is coordinated by G98.7FM founder, president, CEO & station manager Fitzroy Gordon, the consul general of St Vincent and the Grenadines Fitzgerald Huggins, consul general of St Lucia Michael Willius and Frances DelSol, Dominica’s Trade and Investment commissioner, will coordinate the event.

According to a release from consul general of SVG Fitzgerald Huggins, CEO Fitzroy Gordon, Jamaican by birth, has made this unprecedented commitment and offered 11 hours of prime programming hours on Sunday May 4, for hosting the fund-raiser. The radiothon will take place from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the Gospel Show; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the Soul Jazz show; 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during Soca Grove and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. during the Riddim Track show.

“I see myself as a true ambassador for the entire Caribbean, so when there is a need like the one we are now facing in St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and the Commonwealth of Dominica, I have no hesitation to get involved and to make the radio station, G98.7FM, available to help our brothers and sisters in their fight to overcome their tragic circumstances,” says Gordon.

“This ‘Rebuilding Lives’ fund-raiser is a call to action so that our Caribbean businesses, community groups and citizens can show that we are our brother’s keeper. The Caribbean islands are very vulnerable to natural disasters and the Christmas floods were typical of what can happen to any of these islands. G98.7 has responded tremendously and offered the opportunity for all of us to make a contribution towards rebuilding lives of persons who suffered,” said consul general Huggins.

Contributors to the fund-raiser will be eligible for tax receipts for contributions made to SVG-REMA (Relief Education Medical Association). Contributors will be asked to make their pledges at any Toronto Dominion (TD) Bank, payable to SVG-REMA Transit #1080; Account #25212908 or SVG-REMA PayPal account. Cheques can be delivered to the Consulate of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Consulate of St Lucia, Dominica Trade and Investment Commission or to G98.7 Radio Station, at 34 Kern Road, on the day of the radiothon.
