Music awards next week at Peace Mo


Reigning soca Monarch Skinny Fabulous, former Ragga Soca and Calypso Monarch Fya Empress, and local rap artiste Prez have each been nominated for three awards, as the St Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Musicians and Producers host their music awards next week.{{more}}

The event will take place at the Peace Memorial Hall in Kingstown, beginning at 8 p.m., and will be broadcast live on television and radio.

According to information released by the SVG AMP, Skinny Fabulous was nominated in the category for best soca song through his song “The General.”

The song also earned Skinny a nomination for record of the year, and the defending road march winner also picked up a nomination for entertainer of the year.

Fya Empress gained nods in the best calypso (Just), best ragga soca (Ah Ketch It), and record of the year (Ah Ketch It).

Meanwhile, rap artiste Prez was nominated for best new male artiste, as well as best hip hop/R&B song (Beautiful Nightmare). The music video to the song was also nominated for best video.

More than 50 artistes, bands, writers, and producers were nominated in more than 20 categories; these include best dancehall, Christmas, gospel, universal breakthrough, live band, DJ, producer, riddim track, musician and song writer, among others.(JJ)
