This upcoming meeting will take place at the Bequia Community High School on Thursday, May 8, beginning at 6 p.m., under the theme: “Preparing to embrace our international airport,” and all residents of Bequia are invited to attend.

The meeting is geared at stimulating thought and action as persons are encouraged to be prepared to embrace the international airport.

Facilitators include: Jennifer Richardson-Herbert, Communications officer of the IADC, who will update residents on the progress of construction and investment opportunities in and around the airport.

Jay Belmar of the SVG Tourism Authority will look at the impact of the airport on tourism; Andrew Mitchell will zoom in on the development of sailing and how this sector can benefit from the international airport if things are done right; and a representative from the Fisheries Division will look at the impact that the international airport is likely to have on this sector and what persons who are currently involved in it need to be doing to maximize the benefits of having an international airport.

Presentations will be followed by questions and general discussion.

The IADC sees it as essential that people are made aware of what is expected of them and offer some guidance as to how to proceed, so that they are in a better position to take advantage of the opportunities which will come from the operation of an international airport in this country, and is taking the lead in this regard, a release said.

Other Town Hall meetings have been held in Kingstown, Stubbs, Sandy Bay and Troumaca.
