On Friday, April 11, the instruments were handed over to the GHS Music Department by Shirlan Barnwell, local representative of the Toronto Alumnae.

The St Vincent GHS Toronto Chapter is a volunteer organization operated by past students of the school. Its main goal is to promote and participate in the academic and general well-being of current students of the Girls’ High School and to assist in providing information and advice to alumnae who are new immigrants to Canada.

Since the inception of the Chapter, the members have supported the school in many ways, including providing trophies, funding for the Beryl Boucher Lunch Fund and donating prize books for the GHS annual graduation ceremony.

To mark the 100th year anniversary of its Alma Mater, the Chapter was honoured to launch its centennial project with support for the GHS Music Department. During the centennial celebration, a keyboard was donated in honour of past alumna and chapter president, Barbara Cuffy-Palmer.

The GHS now has a complete assignment of recorders, woodwind, string and percussion instruments for its orchestra thanks to the members of the GHS Toronto Chapter who continue to tangibly express their gratitude for the education they received at the Girls’ High School.
