During a press conference on April 17, Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar revealed that Dominica native Patrick Martin had been appointed BAM coordinator earlier this month.

According to Caesar, Martin has worked throughout the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The Minister indicated that the new BAM coordinator is a civil engineer by profession, with a special emphasis on project management.

“He is going to head a very important project where we are going to see grant funds in the tune of between 30 and 35 million dollars going into the farming community, the agricultural sector here in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Caesar said.

“This is going to have a significant impact on every commodity. It’s definitely going to assist in the building process in the agricultural sector.”

The BAM project was developed with the aim of providing financial support for the development and modernization of the agricultural sector, with a timeline of five years.

The project focuses on reducing levels of poverty in St Vincent and the Grenadines through increased production, investment, exports and employment in the agricultural sector, which will in turn contribute to the overall sustainable economic performance of the country.(BK)
