Their catch for the day was verified and documented by staff of the Fisheries Division on St Vincent.

Vaughn Martin and his staff brought in 27 lionfish, weighing 6.48 kilograms or 14.26 pounds. The largest was an impressive 360 millimeters or 14 1/4” in length and the smallest was only 190 millimeters, which is just 7 1/2”.

This brings the total verified and documented catch for the First Annual Union Island Lionfish Derby to 182 heads, weighing 90.61 pounds and brought in by six teams.

The event allowed many persons to eat lionfish for the first time and get a taste for them, along with an education on this invasive predator.
