The body was later identified as 53-year-old Kenville Ellis, popularly know as a “Banku,” a former calypso monarch in the area.

According to community activist Georgietha “Aunty G” Nanton, a close friend of the deceased, Ellis was a nine-time king of calypso, who sang out of the Prophets Calypso Tent.

Nanton said that Ellis started his singing career while in primary school, and continued into his last days.

The crooner was featured on several occasions on Nanton’s television karaoke show “Sing With The Stars,” where he received rousing applause.

Police told SEARCHLIGHT that a post mortem was to be performed on Ellis yesterday, to determine the cause of death.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
