20 Deaconesses ordained

Over 20 deaconesses were ordained last Saturday evening in a spirit filled service held at the Kingstown Seventh Day Adventist(SDA) Church.{{more}}

Ordained were: Shirley Matthews from the Amazing Grace SDA Church, Alice Cumberbatch, Cynthia Austin, Albertha Jack, Doris Williams and Margaret Samuel from the Fountain SDA Church and Rosemarie Richardson, Margaret Mitchell, Maureen Nero, Caroline Wilson, Annis Chapman, Perdita Thomas, Dulcina Pinder, Carmen John, Isabelle Simmons, Theresa Foster, Monica Rose, Clementina Wilson, Patricia Morris, and Adella Williams from the Kingstown SDA Church.

The ordination speaker, Pastor Henry Snagg, the executive secretary of the SVG Mission, noted that as a teen attending the Kingstown SDA Church he interacted with many of the deaconesses who sat before him and who had served their local church preparing the Communion table, overseeing the foot-washing ceremony, assisting in baptisms, and doing their part in caring for the sick, the needy, and the unfortunate.

Pastor Snagg’s sermonette, taken from Romans 16:1, 2 highlighted the role played by Phebe, a deaconess of the Church at Cenchrea, Rome, during the ministry of the Apostle Paul. With his usual flair and animation, he admonished the deaconesses to be assets in the administering of their duties.

The ordination charge was given by Evangelist Claudius Morgan, as he reminded the deaconesses to perform their duties like the confidential Mary, the selfless Lydia, the persistent Phoenician woman and the wise virgins.

These 20 deaconesses are among the 400 plus deaconesses who serve in over 40 congregations of the SDA Church across St Vincent and the Grenadines.
