US group to conduct medical mission to SVG

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Mission of Seventh-day Adventists will host a “United States-based Medical Mission Team” from today to March 30, 2014.{{more}}

The team comprises 30 professionals and practitioners, including doctors, nurses, health educators, dentists and dental students from Loma Linda University, California.

According to Dr Janice Emanuel Bunn, president of the Brooklyn, New York-based APC (Action Performance Commitment) Medical Mission Team, the goal of the mission is to provide quality medical services, dental care and health education while in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Pastor Terence Haynes, health director of the SVG Mission of SDA, who is coordinating the mission trip in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has indicated the following program of activities which will take place while the mission is in St Vincent and the Grenadines:

Health Symposium – Saturday, March 22 at 9 a.m., Calder SDA Church; presentation on various illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity and life style changes that will assist in managing diseases.

Health EXPO – Sunday, March 23 at 10:00 am, Community College, Villa. Health screening for diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, body mass index( (BMI), peak flow, step test, hydro therapy, nutrition and food demonstration, dental screening and medical counselling, as well as life style lectures.

Clinics – March 24 – 28 – Various locations

o March 24 – Georgetown/Montrose

o March 25 – Mespotamia/Sandy Bay

o March 26 – Calliaqua/Kingstown

o March 27 – Chateaubelair/ Buccament

o March 28 – Bequia

March 29 – Dental Symposium, Barrouallie SDA Church.

All services are free, and patients will receive free consultation and medicines.
