Owia Government School hosts reading extravaganza

The Owia Government School held their reading extravaganza on Thursday, 13th March 2014. This took the form of a reading competition, with competitors from grades 2-6.{{more}} Students also made and decorated their hats which were judged among the classes. Best reading slogan was also another aspect of literacy that was judged. Students from the early childhood, kindergarten and grade 1 performed pieces of poetry depicting aspects of reading. Students and teachers were all dressed up in hats of various sizes and shapes, bearing reading slogans. In her opening remarks, Headteacher Natasha Nero echoed the significance of reading and urged students to develop a love for reading by making books their friends. She also dramatized a poem called “words” by Grandpa Tucker.
