While addressing the 25th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, extended invitations to the Heads, to visit her country in July to celebrate the life of the late South African President Nelson Mandela.

The outgoing chairman of CARICOM, Persad-Bissessar reflected on her final act in that role, which was leading the community’s delegation to the late South African president’s official memorial.

“I extend gratitude to my colleague Heads of Government and their representatives, who were able to join me at this celebration of the life of one of the greatest men of modern times,” she said.

The Trinidadian prime minister then revealed that her country will host a week of activities in Mandela’s honour.

“May I invite you…to Trinidad and Tobago in the month of July…where we intend to have a week of activities commemorating and celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela, a Nelson Mandela week,” Persad-Bissessar said.

The dates for the event are yet to be announced.
