This special day seeks to recognise girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. The theme to observe this year’s day is “Innovating for Girls’ Education”. This year’s theme was chosen as an education is imperative and is often the only way out of poverty for many girls. These transformative school years are important and have a significant impact on girls’ personal and holistic development.

According to a release from the Girl Guides Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Association will be celebrating this momentous day with the estimated 2,000 girls who are members of the Association, whose lives they try to daily transform.

“Whilst all of our girls in St Vincent and the Grenadines have access to an education, there are some who may still struggle to attend school due to lack of financial funds. Additionally, there are those who are faced with physical and sexual abuse, low aspirations and troubled homes which undoubtedly affect their learning. The SVG Girl Guides Association will continue to hone the skills and mentor our girls about the importance of an education, whilst highlighting the use and importance of technology to celebrate the Day of the Girl, in keeping with the theme, ‘Innovate to Educate’,” the release said.
