Latin dance courses now available in SVG

A new dance organization, which will enable Vincentians to learn several forms of Latin dance, has been launched in St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

Latin Passion SVG aims to expose as many Vincentians as possible to the fun involved in Latin dancing, through dance courses, workshops at different institutions, and hosting Latin-themed events at various restaurants and hotels across the island.

Latin Passion SVG was formed by Anton Jardine. He was trained by dance team Richard and Romania Beadle of Jamaica and received intensive training in Trinidad earlier this year at Salsa Fiesta TnT, the International Salsa Congress, which he was encouraged to attend by mentor Carol Boissiere of Latin Passion TnT. Salsa Fiesta exposed participants to training from international instructors from Puerto Rico, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Los Angeles, New York, London and Hungary to delegates from Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St Lucia, and Barbados. It was the first time St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented.

According to Jardine, “this fantastic experience of seeing the level at which the neighbouring countries were in Latin dancing, encouraged my passion to take dancers in St Vincent and the Grenadines to the next level and that led me to the idea of forming Latin Passion SVG.”

Anton further emphasized “The club is not about teaching choreographed moves; it teaches men the technique of leading a lady on the dance floor and the lady how to respond to the dance signals given by her dance partner, eventually to add her own flare and character to the dance. Every dance will be different every time depending on the mood of the song and your dance partner. Once students grasp this, they will be able to dance with anyone, anywhere in the world on the Latin Dance floor.”

Anton also noted that Latin dancing is one of the best aerobic and anaerobic forms of exercise, without the monotonous movement of running or walking.

The members of the club are currently engaged in a six-week training programme, conducted by one of the club’s guest international instructors, Lina Doyle of the UK.

The club is run by a five-member board, comprising Anton Jardine (president), Cuthbert Tucker (vice president), Lori Francis (treasurer), Christopher Pierre (secretary) and Kimya Glasgow (PRO).

Latin Passion SVG will be offering Salsa, Cha Cha, Bachata and Kizomba. Further information on the organization is available via Facebook and Twitter.
