Vincentians in US urged to regularize legal status

Vincentians living in the United States of America, especially New York, who have not attained at least permanent residence status, have been asked to get themselves “ legalized”.{{more}}

Making this plea was the St Vincent and the Grenadines Consul General to New York Selmon Walters, as he addressed thousands of Vincentians at the second annual Vincy Day USA, which was held at Hecksher Park in Long Island.

Speaking last Saturday, Walters urged those who fall into that category to make full use of an Act which would enable them to regularise their status.

“Your children who came here, they went to school here; they have grown up here; the Act is supposed to make them legal citizens….So, please talk to your immigration lawyer and let us see how we can begin that process,” Walters pleaded.

Walters noted that several Vincentians in recent times have been deported to St Vincent and the Grenadines for what he termed “small reasons”.(RT)
