The announcement was made on Sunday evening, as the curtains came down on the two-month long competition, during a special function at the KFC parking lot in Arnos Vale.

The project was undertaken and completed by the Hairouna Progressive Organization, a group which operates out of the South Leeward area.

Ten groups were selected for the finals, out of a total of 25 applications.

The group re-roofed, repainted and added a bulletin board to the structure, located at the Dubois main road, as part of a beautification project in the area.

The more than 30 members of the group were awarded with a champions’ trophy for their efforts, as well as a certificate of participation, and other prizes.

The team out scored the Greiggs/Lauders Sports and Cultural Organization, beating them into second place. That group constructed washroom facilities at the Lauders Playing Field.

In third place was the Clare Valley Outreachers Group, who refurbished and added a bathroom to the home of an elderly lady in the community.

Organizers of the challenge said that the exercise was very successful, and that the competition proved that there are community spirited individuals, who are willing to lift their communities, if given the opportunity.

The call was made for more sponsors to come on board to make any future challenge more successful.

Sunday’s event also included the hosting of the KFC Miss So Good pageant.(JJ)
